LIPS LIPS LIPS

Permanent Makeup is a form of tattoo and is opening the skin. When you come in for an appointment you are coming in to have a procedure done. This procedure breaks the skin and requires special care and attention to the tattoo sight in order for proper healing to occur.

As with any procedure, complications can occur. This page addresses those complications and provides insight on how to properly handle the situation. It is important to remember that everyone is unique and results/experiences will differ based on many factors such as age/skin/aftercare.

LIP BlUSH

PREFACE:

Lip Blush Tattoo is a dusting method that implants pigment into the skin. It is important to understand that this is a tattoo and that you will experience a healing transformation. Everyone’s skin is different and it is important to remember that your experience may differ slightly from another client’s. Age, skin type and how you personally care for your lips will determine your specific recovery. Your skin has undergone a trauma and is acting as an open wound immediately after your appointment. Please read in detail the following information and know that there is a process to reach the optimal results. Time and patience are required.

EXPERIENCE:

Immediately after your appointment your lips will feel very sensitive. Swelling is NORMAL and lips may appear much larger than actual shape. Swelling will go down to normal size within the next 24-48 hours.

Your lips will feel a burning sensation much like a sunburn that occurs over the next 3-4 days while they begin to heal. After the burning goes down your lips may become very dry. It is important to keep them moisturized at ALL TIMES.

The dryness will cause scabbing and your lips will begin to flake. This flaking is normal and is required of the lip blush in order for your new color to be revealed. The flaking will continue for 3-7 days depending on your skin and how well you care for them.

DO NOT pick/pull/play with scabs. This can cause bleeding, damage or negatively affect the coloration of your final healed results.

AFTER CARE:

I will provide a healing balm that you will need to apply REGULARLY throughout the healing process. Your lips need to be moisturized 24/7. Your lips are incredibly sensitive and keeping them nourished throughout this healing process is of the utmost importance.

To help with burning, fill a zip lock bag with cool water or place in the fridge for 20 min and rest the bag gently on your lips. Ice will be too aggressively cold and may aggravate your lips and cause discomfort after the ice is removed.

DO NOT APPLY lip products such as: Flavored/colored/scented lipstick, lip balm, oil or gloss while your lips are freshly tattooed; Avoid these products for at least 14 days.

DO APPLY the healing ointment that I provide the first 14 days. After your scabs have fallen off and your lips are healed over you may use products such as Aquaphor, Vaseline, Chapstick.

You may begin using your normal lip products after 14 days and your lips (the skin on your lips) are completely healed and there is no pain and no flaking.

AVOID:

Eating spicy or messy foods for the next 7 days

Avoid kissing or touching lips for the next 7-14 days. There is bacteria on the lips and fingers that can negatively affect your healing. Keep the lip area clean and treat it carefully.

COLD SORES:

PRIOR TO APPOINTMENT: If you believe that you are prone to getting cold sores it is recommended to get on a prescription antiviral medication 3-4 days before the Lip Blush Appointment and continue to take the medication during the healing phase. This will prevent a cold sore reaction.

AFTER APPOINTMENT: If you have a cold sore reaction do not panic. This can happen and it is possible to show up for the first time after Lip Blush has occurred. Lip Blush is a tattoo and can trigger the reaction within your body. Cold sore reactions are specific to your body’s reaction and can be unpredictable.

Immediately get on a prescription antiviral and begin taking supplements to counteract the reaction. Be careful not to touch your lips unless your hands are clean.

RECOMMENDED MEDICATIONS:

  • VALTREX is a prescription antiviral : There are several prescription antivirals and they are the strongest and will be the most effective

  • Lysine is a natural supplement that can be taken regularly to enhance health and reduce production of cold sores (found at CVS/Walmart/Walgreens/Target)

  • Morgan’s Lysine Lip Balm – Apply generously if cold sores appear

  • Abreva is a non-prescription treatment *found at CVS/Walgreens/Walmart/Target

GENERAL INFORMATION: Healing time for tattooing varies from person-to-person.

The rate of infection is minimal if the aftercare is followed appropriately. It is very

important to remember not to touch the tattooed site without first washing your

hands. Normal body reactions to tattooing may include: redness, swelling, and/or

minor discomfort at the site. If after 48 hours more severe complications occur

(increased redness, swelling or hardness at the site, pus-like drainage, onset of

fever, and/or prolonged pain at the site or respiratory difficulty following tongue

piercing), contact your personal physician.
